Equipped with state-of-the-art science labs and the latest technology, our school is a true beauty. ISK provides the ideal environment for students to learn and grow. ISK utilizes an American curriculum, which is based upon standards and growth models created in the United States of America, which are used around the globe. The American system provides learning and content just as other internationally recognized systems, but with a stronger focus on providing students with opportunities to become leaders and excellent communicators through critical thinking and problem solving skills. ISK also closely monitors the growth of students skills and abilities by using internationally normed tests, such as the MAP and PSAT which monitor student learning. At the high school level, Advanced Placement courses coupled with SAT exam results, ensure that our graduates get into the universities of their choice. By graduating with an American High School Diploma, ISK students are able to bypass additional years of education, such as Form 6, foundation year, or A levels, altogether, and directly enter into the bachelor degree program of their choice.

As the Principal of St.Michaels Institution, I feel priviledged to have the opportunity to write a few words on the schools official website. At St. Michaels Institution, we strive to produce excellent students with good character. I share my joy with many other old Michaelians to see how students are taught, inspired and nurtured to become outstanding individuals who are now successful in their respective vocations. I thank the La Salle Brothers and former Principals who have laid the foundation of Lasallian education. They have established a set of Lasallian values which have guided many of us to live a good life, to have faith, to render service and to pay attention to the educational needs of the last, the lost and the least. It is my hope as a Principal that these values are passed on to the present students. To achieve this, we need a team of dedicated teachers, supportive parents and stakeholders. We are lucky to have so many dedicated teachers, supportive parents, old boys and board members to help us with this mission. On behalf of the school, I thank the Board of Governors, the Parent-Teacher Association and the Old Michaelians Association for their support. I thank the teachers for working together with me to propel St. Michaels Institution to greater success. I sincerely hope that they will experience the joy and fulfilment in teaching the wonderful young Michaelians. Last but not least, I congratulate and sincerely thank Mr.Ooi Kean Giap and his team of teachers for helping us to maintain our school website. Their efforts are note-worthy and commendable. Best wishes and God Bless

Welcome to GEMS International School of Pearl City, Penang. We offer your children the opportunity to embark upon on an enjoyable, wonder-filled journey that will prepare them for a happy and productive future. Parents who are looking for a good international school for their children are no doubt considering many factors – both local and global. At GEMS, our international standard of education has been successful in more than 85 schools worldwide. Furthermore, we are constantly improving and enhancing the quality of education we provide through our principles, plans and practices. We understand that the children of today are growing up in an increasingly globalised world. They will be challenged by talented young people from within and outside Malaysia when it comes to getting places at leading universities and securing a job. The criteria for success is clearly evolving beyond academic excellence alone. We insist on equipping your child with a well-rounded or holistic education, focusing not only on academic excellence, but also the development of key 21st century skills and competencies such as critical thinking, creativity, resilience and a collaborative spirit. Our school aims to develop our students to meet this challenge by giving them the tools and skills to be: Creative thinkers Independent enquirers Effective participators Team members Self-managers Reflective learners All our programmes, starting with the Little GEMS (Early Years Foundation Stage or Kindergarten) programme through Primary and Secondary school phases, are based on the British International Curriculum that provides a detailed, robust, balanced and innovative blueprint for a childs academic progression from the ages of 3 to 18. We also provide our students with thorough preparation for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Cambridge Advanced (A) Level examinations required for entry into leading universities in Malaysia and overseas. While we focus on our international standard of education (based on the British International Curriculum), we also provide Ministry of Education-directed programmes of study including Malay and Mandarin language classes and Malaysian Studies through our innovative Social Studies core. Our programme structure ensures that your child can pursue further study or careers in their home country or overseas. We realise that every child at our school has unique abilities and potential. Instead of having students of different abilities compete for the same finishing line, we encourage them to excel as individuals and fulfil their own potential. This creates an environment where students celebrate each others achievements, respect differences amongst their peers, collaborate with each other, and discover the meaning and joy in learning together. We do all this in a school that creates a caring environment with vibrant spaces for students who want to explore, grow and above all, be inspired and motivated to learn.

In the 1960s in the United States I set out on a search for Truth. This was to be no quest to fill some missing spiritual vacuum; I had already firmly determined that God did not exist. Not only did I not believe in God, but I was convinced that all logic, reason, and scientific evidence confirmed that God did not exist; and, that for anyone to believe in the existence of God was such an outdated, superstitious way of life that it would hold them back from fulfilling their human potential and would likewise block the human race from achieving its ultimate destiny. So certain was I that I once stated, establishing the highest authenticity of my atheistic credentials when I was lecturing to a large class of about 500 introductory psychology students that, “If there was ever going to be the last person on Earth who didnt believe in God it would be me”. My search for truth included almost fourteen years as a full time university student and resulted in my going through three and a half PhD programs in child, clinical, experimental, and educational psychology. I had originally intended, and began, my studies in the physical sciences. This allowed me, due to previous training in nuclear electronics, to spend four years as a research assistant in one of the foremost theoretical physics laboratories of that time, where I had the opportunity to meet and discuss the most basic nature of our physical universe with several recipients of the Nobel Prize in Physics.
